Gospel singer Naomi Karanja will hold her inaugural concert at St Andrews PCEA Church in Nairobi next Sunday.
Naomi, who resides in Atlanta, Georgia, produced her first album Thahabu, in 2008. Her latest song Muhotoro, which she released this year, was a hit with her fans in the US.
The musician, who is eager to perform in front of a Kenyan crowd, promised fans of an unforgettable experience.
“I am inviting you to my homecoming event which I will also use to launch my newest album,” Naomi, a radio presenter with the online Jambo Radio Network, said.
The artiste credits her success in life to hard work and the fear of God.
“I was born in Molo where I came face to face with extreme poverty to a point that having a roof over our heads was not guaranteed. We were so poor that even donkeys could not survive in our home for there was nothing to eat,” she told Sunday Nation.
WHAT YOU'VE HEARD
“If anybody had given me a glimpse of my future, I would not have believed but today I can testify that being true and faithful as well as doing good at all times bears forth good tidings’’ she told this writer during a recent visit to the US.
This resonates with one of my songs “Uguo Muiguite Niguo”.
“At home, I was a member of the Full Gospel Church where I gave my life to the Lord at a young age. I got married and moved to Njoro in Nakuru and then later on to Nairobi. I relocated to the US in 2001 with my two children and was later blessed with two more. Sadly my eldest son went to be with the Lord in 2008,” she said.
Atlanta-based Kenyan American Community Church Minister, Rev GG Gitahi, who will accompany Naomi to Nairobi described her music as not only uplifting but a vigorous exercise that challenges the traditional lacklustre church services.
Local gospel artistes, among them Ruth Wamuyu, Julia Lucy, Shiru wa GP, Aaron Aaron, Betty Bayo, Heze Nd’ungu, Sarah Kiarie, Dan M, Muruaru, Ben Githae, and radio presenters Njoki wa Mburu, PM Squared and Njeri wa Munga will also perform at the event.
