"Preliminary information indicates that a single northbound vehicle hydroplaned and crashed into the left (western) guardrail," the department said. "As traffic slowed, a second collision involving two tractor-trailers and a car occurred south of the first collision. These two collisions set off a chain of collisions involving an additional 13 vehicles."

The wreck killed 58-year-old Boniface Ndiangui of Marietta, who was driving a tractor-trailer.

Police said Ndiangui was towing an "enclosed semi-trailer" on I-75 North and collided with the back of a car that was being towed by a RAM pickup truck.
